In correspondence with the YMCA this morning, Harvey Gainey indicated that he and Annie are not in a position to commit the funds necessary in the timeline needed to maintain the naming of the Gainey Family YMCA. He wanted to communicate this to us directly so that we could pursue a new lead donor for this valuable community project.

The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors has made the decision to pursue a new lead donor for the $3 million gift.

West Michigan has had a long and valued tradition of pulling together in difficult circumstances. The Gainey family and the Gainey Corporation have contributed in many ways to our community, and the YMCA is grateful to Mr. Gainey for allowing us to move forward as we pursue a new lead donor.

The YMCA is currently in the design development phase of the new YMCA and we are finalizing our architectural plans. This is an important project to our association and to the community. Our research indicates there is great need in the southeast area of town for a new family focused YMCA. As plans continue to move forward we will keep the community up-to-date.
