Summer Camp Themes 2012

Week 1- Survivor Week
Welcome to Manitou-Lin’s tribal council. This week we will be voting counselors off the island, making our own cabin tribes and looking for immunity idols hidden around camp. Campers will get to participate in exciting activities like fort building, fire making, outdoor cooking and water collecting. Has your child ever wanted to learn how to survive in the wilderness without fear? Are they excited about camping out under the stars? Are they willing to try new food? Manitou-Lin will offer all of that and more this week… without the rats.

Week 2- Blast from the Past
This week your camper will get a chance to take a trip back through the decades. They’ll get the chance to make their own hippie tye-dye, jam to some big band hits, and hunt for different folks traveling through our very own Manitou-Lin time warp. Pack the bell-bottoms, poodle skirts or caveman clubs!

Week 3- Olympic Week
What better place to celebrate and honor the Summer 2012 Olympics than at Camp! We will be honoring some of the more wacky Olympic events in our own Camp Style. You never know where the next Handball, Badminton or Kayaking Gold Medalist will be created!

Week 4- Harry Potter Week
Welcome to a wonderful week of Hogwarts at Camp! Have you ever felt that you were different? That things happened to you that didn’t make sense? This week we will relocate you from the world of Muggles to the Wizarding World. We will play a great game of Quidditch with your group, experience a potions class, and work towards ridding both worlds of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named! All of our regular Muggle activities of rock climbing, trail rides and swimming, will be available, but if you want extra spells in your arsenal, come out to camp this week!

Week 5- Splash Week
Come out to Manitou-Lin to cool off, have fun and get wet! Splash week will combine all of your favorite camp activities with wet, wild and zany twists to keep you cool and having fun! Come out and participate in a Barlow Lake event with point swims, water challenges or fishing contests! Whether you are a guppy, polliwog, eel, or shark “just keep swimming” with Manitou-Lin.

Week 6- Winter In July Sometimes, in the heat of summer, you just need a little winter! We will be blasting forward to celebrate the best of the winter months. This week will be a cool break from the hot summer. All it will take is a little imagination, a lot of ice and possibly some snow!

Week 7- Mad Science
Who doesn’t like a good, messy experiment? Campers will be able to use their scientific mind to create and possibly destroy all sorts of experiments. The common questions asked will be, “ I wonder what would happen if…”

Week 8- Crimebuster Mystery Week
Do you love science? Do you love finding out how or why things have happened? Do you like the idea of knowing something before anyone else? This week crime seems to be sky high at camp! Every day campers will have yet another crime scene to deal with, yet another perpetrator to nab and will get the tools to look at the 5 w’s in investigation! This will be one thing your Sherlock won’t want to miss!

Week 9- Circus Week
The Greatest Show on Earth- Manitou-Lin! We will honor the life under the big top this week with juggling, clowning, magic and more! Campers will work together to create their own Circus act to show the rest of Camp!

Week 10-Green Week
We can’t think of a better place to learn about our precious resources, than Camp! This week we will work cooperatively to learn how we can all save our favorite planet-Earth! We will have creative activities using problem solving, teambuilding and communication to solve some of our eco-challenges. But don’t worry; all of this will be done ‘Camp Style’. Campers will be challenged to solve an all Camp epidemic that is threatening us all!
