  1. Kevin D. Gillispie

    Camper - 1972 - 1978 Summer Camp & Outposters

My first counselor was George Przygodski.  I looked up to him as an idol.  He shared with us that he was a football player at the University of Michigan.  Michigan is my favorite team since I was born in Ann Arbor.  So camp was especially great that summer.

Another person that impacted me, was Jim Ketchum (Caretaker/Counselor).  He was a mentor to all he met.  He had a real love for what he did.  I enjoyed the Outposters trip he led to Canada, July, 1975.

I continued to enjoy my camping experience for many years, eventually becoming a staff member. I truly believe I am the success I am today, in part to my experiences at Camp Manitou-Lin.  Thanks.

  2. George Przygodski

    Staff - 1971-1974r STAFF - Summer Camp

My experiences as a counselor in Junior Village were instrumental in my career in public education. As the co-founding member of the Wild Man’s Club, I recall the integration of athleticism with faith and fellowship in the program.

    Camper - 1948 -1966 Camper 48-52 counselor 57-59 Ast Director 66

I have lots of stories and lots of photos (slides) taken between 1948 - 1966. I also have a geological chart of Camp Manitou-lin that was in the 2nd Liesveld Lodge from 1966 to 1998.

Camper - 1981 Sixth Grade Camping Trip

I remember camping here for the weekend with my six grade class; it was our last trip together before going on to Jr. High. I remember the night hike, and going over to Colman cemetery to find the oldest grave - and we did!  It was Mr. Colman himself! I will never forget how fun this camping trip was.

  5. Philip Schmidbauer

    Staff - 2002, 2005 Summer Camp

I came to camp prior to my Senior year at college and learned more that summer than 4.5 years of college. I has the pleasure (as Kevin Morrison did) of serving Nick Knack as his counselor for 2 weeks in 2002 and learned more about having heart from him than anyone could have taught me. He was full of passion and I’m glad to hear Kevin’s story from 2010. I returned for 1 week a few summers later (took vacation to volunteer for a week) and will never forget playing the guitar around the campfire and Indian Campfires.

I thank my brother Mark and David McWatters for getting me into camping and will never forget all the friends I made there!

I will measure my life based on the number of children I’ve made a positive impact on ... starting with my 2 boys.  Camp Counselors are building the future of our country and will always be indebted to the shores of Old Lake Barlow.
