Because Everyone Deserves a Y
HOUR POWER
For too many kids, their most critical hour is the first hour after they return home from school. This is the riskiest time for kids–when boredom can lead to bad choices. And this risk doesn’t discriminate–it affects all of our kids. Reported incidents of crime, drug abuse, and teenage sexual activity dramatically increase during the hours from 3 to 6 p.m. The physical and mental health of our kids is at risk, too–heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and depression–no matter who they are, where they live, and what their income.
This is also the time when many of the YMCAs of Greater Grand Rapids offer a variety of engaging programs for all youth in our communities. Whether it’s group fitness classes in Lowell, swimming lessons at the David D. Hunting branch, or rugby at the Wolverine World Wide Family branch, there is something for you, your kids, and for your family.
DOLLAR POWER
The goal of the Strong Kids Campaign is to make sure everyone in our communities has the chance to participate in YMCA programs and membership. Last year, the Strong Kids Campaign provided over $1 million in scholarships to 15,000 kids and families. This year we hope to serve even more families. Simply put, the Strong Kids Campaign provides funds for kids and families who could otherwise not afford to attend the Y in their community. You make it possible for all to participate.
Contact your branch to find out how your gift can make a difference. Your gift is greatly appreciated and fully deductible as a charitable contribution. The YMCA is a tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) organization under the IRS code.
