People We Welcome With Open Arms - 100%
It’s the percentage of people we welcome with open arms at the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids. It’s the percentage we encourage everyone to aim for when developing a healthy spirit, mind, and body. And it’s the only percentage possible with gifts from you. Your charitable contributions give beyond that which any dollar amount could achieve. They give a mother and a daughter a time and a place to bond and grow; they give a teen an opportunity to be comfortable and make friends; they give a struggling family a place to renew themselves. This is the percentage that counts.

Kids Who Are Overwieght Or Obsese - 16%
Nationally, that’s over nine million boys and girls. The YMCA is battling this statistic by consistently incorporating healthy living in all its programs, whether it’s after school activities, a weekend at Camp Manitou-Lin or Friday’s Teen Night held throughout the year. Healthier places mean healthier people, and that’s what it’s about for many of these youth: to provide them with a healthy, socially stimulating environment. The YMCA encourages them to be fit and have fun. An essential part of growing up healthy is experiencing positive social interaction and creating friends in a supportive setting. The YMCA provides these opportunities, only made possible for many through the Strong Kids Campaign.
Kids Who Are Unsupervised - 59%
More than half of our teens are unsupervised after school at least one day or more each week. The less supervision during this time, the more likely they’ll be victims of at-risk behavior. As a health and wellness leader in the community, the YMCA is dedicated to serving youth and their families through local activities, creating a safe, nurturing environment for everyone. By providing encouraging programs, like after school activities, parents can feel secure about where their kids are and youth have a place to develop a positive attitude about the decisions that they make in life.
