What is Activate West Michigan?
Activate West Michigan is a community coalition of government, community, schools, health care, corporate, and not-for-profit leaders that have joined together to develop local solutions around the rising rates of obesity and chronic disease.  Addressing these complex and growing epidemics requires a community-based response to change the way local communities live, think, and act. 

Mission...
To improve the health and quality of life by promoting healthy and active lifestyles among West Michigan individuals, families, and communities.

Goals...
Reduce obesity/overweight and the health conditions that are related to it: heart disease, stroke, hypertension, diabetes, several types of cancer, osteoarthritis, asthma, and depression.

1. Increase physical activity through coordinated opportunities and programs.  Encourage healthy eating.
2. Develop culturally sensitive materials and programs.
3. Partner and support other organizations working with similar goals to improve health and wellness.
4. Lower the costs related to obesity.
5. Advocate for policy changes that support healthy lifestyles.
6. Develop measurement tools and collect baseline data.
7. Develop a physically fit work force to position Michigan as a state of choice for new businesses.
