As a reminder – Shirts and shoes throughout the building except the pool areas. Members and guests must wear exercise apparel that covers the midriff. Clothing or accessories must have appropriate graphics and/or language reflective of a family focused facility. T-shirts, tank tops, and sleeveless t-shirts are all permissible. Athletic and/or closed toe shoes must be worn at all times. Boots, hardsurfaced shoes, flip flops, or open toed shoes cannot be worn in any exercise area. Grant Awarded for Financial Education Program

Grand Rapids, Mich, – Nov. 16, 2011 – The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids has been awarded a $32,200 grant from the PNC Foundation to teach area children lessons in spending, sharing and saving and equip parents to reinforce the lessons at home. PNC provided the funding in support of Grow Up Great, its bilingual program in early childhood education.

Governor Snyder joins Activate West Michigan to launch YMCA Veggie Mobile

Grand Rapids, MI – The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids has broken new ground with the first ever portable farmers market by way of its new Veggie Mobile bringing locally raised affordable produce to the central city’s YMCA Healthy Living Hub locations.
The Y was awarded a nearly $1.5 million grant from the Kellogg Foundation in part due to its innovative proposal to bringing fresh, locally grown produce by way of a refrigerated Veggie Mobile vehicle.

YMCA Farmers’ Market to Open in Downtown Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids, MI – For the first time in about eight years, downtown workers and area residents will be able to shop at a farmers’ market in the downtown/westside area.
The new and very progressive YMCA Farmers’ Market will be the first of its kind to offer nutrition education material and healthy food preparation demonstrations on site. The market will offer weekly food demonstrations and sampling of the featured produce. Kids activities will include face painting, a veggie photo booth, plus nutrition and fitness games.

YMCA Give-A-Glove Campaign

Grand Rapids,MI –The Grand Rapids YMCA is throwing the opening pitch of its annual “Give-A-Glove” campaign. The campaign supports The Inner City Youth Baseball/Softball Program by providing young players with gently used youth baseball gloves.
Everyone who donates a glove receives two tickets to a 2011 West Michigan Whitecaps’ home game. This important community-wide initiative runs from May 19 to June 1.
