Overview
Intermediate swim class for children.
This intermediate level is for children who can swim 25 yards of the pool on their front and back using alternating and symmetrical paddles and 25 yards on their side. Swimmers should know rhythmic breathing and be comfortable diving, treading water, and floating. The swimmer at this level can swim several lengths of the pool. The children work to refine the crawl and perform elementary backstroke, sidestroke, and turns. They are introduced to the butterfly stroke and should do 25 yards with fins and 10 yards without. Students should be able to perform 50 yards of each crawl stroke, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, backstroke and sidestroke. Emphasis is also on underwater swimming skills with a mask and snorkel and basic first aid skills. Skills include treading water 3 minutes, swim 25 yards on front and back wearing PFD, swim front crawl with rotary breathing for 50 yards, swim elementary backstroke, and sidestroke for 50 yards, swim backstroke for 50 yards, swim breaststroke for 50 yards, swim butterfly for 25 yards with fins 15 yards without fins, scull head first, and feet first for 45 feet.
