Weather Policies for Sports Leagues
The Southeast SPORTS Hotline is 285-9057.
Judging the weather is always difficult and the Southeast YMCA must make decisions that ensure players’ and spectators’ safety. Safety is our primary concern when inclement weather involving rain, thunder and lightning is present. Outlined below is a brief explanation of the procedures we utilize for inclement weather.

Lightning / Thunder
Any sight of lightning and/or sound of thunder in the area of the sport fields results in immediate suspension of a game. Players and spectators are requested to take cover in cars or the Teen Center. After a 20-minute waiting period, SE YMCA staff will make the decision to cancel or resume play.

Decisions on Saturday games are made by 7:45 am and by 05:15 pm for the week night leagues. If conditions should change after those times, a final decision is made by SE YMCA staff at the field. NOTE: If rain should occur at game time, the SE YMCA staff will give a verbal decision at the field on whether or not the game is played.

Coaches will determine whether a practice should be cancelled due to inclement weather.

The mission of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is to put Christian principles
into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
