LIVESTRONG at the YMCA
A twelve-week small group program designed for adult cancer survivors. This program is provided free of cost.
It’s about health . . .
Coping with cancer, the treatments involved, and the return to normal life, is more manageable with a network of support.
The Lowell YMCA is proud to bring our community this 12 week program. LIVESTRONG at the YMCA fulfills the important need to support cancer survivors, emphasizing a survivor’s health, not the disease.
The program . . .
The program reintroduces participants to a variety of physical activities in a safe and supportive environment. You can expect to participate in activities such as weight training, cardiovascular exercise, water aerobics, yoga, and pilates.
YMCA LIVESTRONG instructors competent in the implications of cancer, post rehab exercises and supportive care, will work with you individually to develop a program that meets your specific needs. This program may ease the severity of side effects due to treatment and help improve your energy levels and self-esteem.
1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime according to the National Cancer Institute. Research has shown that moderate levels of appropriate physical activity can reduce fatigue, boost self-esteem and improve muscle strength and physical endurance in individuals following cancer treatment.
We hope you can join us.
