The YMCA Veggie Van is West Michigan’s first and only mobile farmers market. The Veggie Van runs year round, making daily stops in urban neighborhoods throughout Grand Rapids, assuring that fruits and vegetables are available to people who otherwise have limited access to fresh produce. We sell locally grown, top-quality fruits and vegetables at reduced prices. Additionally, we accept SNAP, WIC, and Senior Project Fresh/Market FRESH benefits.
Every week we’ll bring you the very best of what our local farmers and community has to offer! This may include produce samplings, featured recipes, community events, etc.
Fruits and Vegetables Brought to you By . . .
We primarily purchase our fruits and veggies from local farmers and supplement our supply by partnering with local grocery stores.
FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS
Our market participates in multiple food assistance programs to meet the needs of our community. Below is a list and description of the programs we participate in.
Double Up Food Bucks
The Double Up Food Bucks program allows SNAP-eligible shoppers to double their SNAP benefits (Bridge Cards) up to $20 per market day. If a shopper purchases $20 worth of food at the market using a Bridge Card, they will receive $20 in Double Up Food Bucks tokens to spend on fresh, Michigan grown produce at the market. Begins July 1.
WIC Project FRESH
Women and children (ages 1-5) who are currently enrolled in the WIC program in Kent County can use their Michigan WIC EBT Card to shop at the market. Qualified individuals who live outside of Kent County can to use the paper coupons. Eligible items include Michigan grown fresh unprocessed fruits and vegetables.
WIC Cash Value Benefits
WIC CVB provides WIC recipients with benefits for fresh fruits and vegetables that do not have to be grown in Michigan.
Summer EBT For Children
The purpose of the program is to help families feed their children well-balanced and nutritious breakfasts and lunches during the summer months when school meals are not readily available. The SEBTC program uses a Bridge Card for electronic benefit transfer (EBT) similar to the WIC system.
Made Possible By . . .
The Veggie Van is made possible through the generosity of the W. K. Kellogg Foundation.
