YMCA Celebrates New School Year with Free Back to School Event and Donated School Supplies
Grand Rapids, MI (July 29, 2019) – The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids announced today it will celebrate the new school year with its tenth annual back-to-school event from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2019. The event will feature carnival-style games for families to play and win school supplies at the David D. Hunting YMCA. Attendees will also receive a free backpack full of supplies, including markers, glue sticks, pencils, folders, notebooks and other items. The event will include art projects, games, face painting, treats, giveaways and more. Supplies are limited and available while they last.
Each fall, as the school year approaches, parents take their children back-to-school shopping. “For many, back-to-school shopping is an annual rite of passage,” said Kevin Myers, District Executive Director, David D. Hunting YMCA. “But for some across our community, there are families who cannot afford backpacks or school supplies. That’s why the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is committed to working with our community partners to make sure all kids have the tools they need to be successful in school.”
The YMCA is able to offer the event through the generous support of its sponsors, including the following companies: Andy J. Egan Co. Inc., Feyen Zylstra, Five Below, Great Lakes Dental, Sam’s Club, Meijer, Discount School Supply, NxGen MDx, and Target.
