The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids offers a variety of programs for seniors the engage in low impact classes while being a part of a vibrant community.
Land Fitness
Our land group fitness classes are included in your membership and do not require pre-registration. Please visit the front desk with any questions.
A hybrid workout class combining ballet inspired moves with elements of Pilates, dance, yoga and strength training. Barre also focuses on high reps of small range movements.
A great cardio workout which incorporates high energy inspired from Latin and pop music, as well as retro and traditional aerobics elements of fitness. A good mix of high and low intensity moves easy to adapt for all fitness levels.
The combination of drumsticks, exercise balls, and upbeat rhythms makes this a class for everyone! We will incorporate cardio drumming routines with strength and stretching exercises that are fun to do and easy to follow.
Fitness for Life is a low impact, low intensity group fitness class with a flexible format. Participants can expect a fluid structure highlighting basic strength and range of motion, balance training, light cardio and core work.
A slower yoga practice that focuses on restoring the body to a state of balance. You are lead through a flow with an emphasis on functional flexibility, with static and dynamic movements, breath connection, and muscular alignment. This reduces stress in all areas of the body.
Join us for an engaging and enjoyable class designed for all fitness levels! Activities include walking, line dancing, and stretching. Each participant will be able to exercise according to his or her own ability. Experience the benefits of improved strength and physical fitness while having fun.
This class is designed for those who need a little extra stability in their workouts. It’s also appropriate for someone who is recovering from an injury or surgery. We work all muscles and joints safely, as well as work on balance, muscle reflex, and flexibility.
We know that balance is a key component for improving the quality of life as we age. This class incorporates range of motion stretches along with stationary and movement-based balancing exercises.
This is a fitness practice that combines the key principles of yoga & pilates, such as meditation, balance, strength & flexibility.
A Zumba class that includes original Latin and International dance rhythms and moves you love but at a lower intensity. The class will include easy to follow Zumba choreography that focuses on cardiovascular fitness, coordnation and balance. Come ready to dance and have fun!
Water Fitness

This aqua class combines low-impact movements, range of motion exercises, cardio, balance training and stretching. It is a great class for those with arthritis, fibromyalgia or simply desiring a lighter workout.
A complete water fitness class. Cardio Mix uses a variety of exercises and equipment to strengthen muscles, improve cardiovascular fitness and increase flexibility. Activities may include deep water and shallow water movements. Intensity and impact can be modified and adapted to meet your individual needs.
Have fun getting a full body workout in the pool while dancing to various genres of music.
Experience the many benefits of Yoga in a calm and relaxing environment of warm water. Aqua yoga makes it possible for people with joint discomfort or other limitations to improve strength, balance and flexibility while calming their mind, body and spirit. No prior yoga experience necessary.
In this deep-water workout, participants use equipment to keep afloat while suspended in the deep end of the pool. The balanced workout includes warm-up, cardio, strength, and flexibility training. Participants must be comfortable in deep water.
A low impact water workout that is held in shallow water. It combines cardiovascular, muscular strength and core work.
Speciality Fitness

This class aims to provide individuals with Parkinson’s access to a specialized dance therapy class focused on mobility, stretching, coordination and balance improvement.
A weekly meet up to stay active and get connected with others in the community by walking! Meet in the lobby and join us in a laid back environment with no expectations other than you showing up and walking at your own pace. Walk with a friend or by yourself – whatever you prefer.
Senior Programs

It’s never too late to learn how to swim. Teen and adult lessons are designed to help you feel comfortable and confident in the pool, so you can progress at your own pace. Teen/Adult Beginner will focus on the basic techniques of floating, breath control, and basic skills to swim on your front and back.
This Pickleball class is designed to help participants build a solid foundation in the game, focusing on the fundamentals while also highlighting our core values of sportsmanship and teamwork. Participants will explore different strategies, improve their skills, and learn new techniques. Open to all ages, this clinic includes drills that each participant can take home to continue practicing and enhancing their game on their own.
Come and craft with Carol while enjoying making new friends, experiences, and creations! For 2 hours, Carol will instruct you through the class’s specific craft for the month. Supplies are provided.
Come Make it with Mandy! Enjoy different crafting activities while making new friends, experiences, and creations! For 2 hours, Mandy will instruct you through the class’s specific craft for the month. Supplies are provided.
Paint with Kristal in the month’s chosen theme. No painting experience needed – just bring your imagination.
The Parkinson’s Nordic Walking group is for individuals with Parkinson’s to walk around the track using Nordic walking sticks.
Build strength, balance, and confidence with Posture & Power, a small group training program designed for active older and middle-aged adults looking to move and feel better every day. This functional training program focuses on improving mobility, posture, and total-body strength through controlled, purposeful movements that translate directly to daily activities. Participants will work on core stability, joint flexibility, and muscle balance to enhance coordination and reduce the risk of injury. Whether you’re looking to maintain independence, boost energy, or improve overall wellness, this supportive, trainer-led environment will help you move with more power, stability, and ease in your everyday life.

One Pass Membership
One Pass is a health and wellness program that gives you access to gyms, fitness locations, studios, online workouts, brain health tools, and social events and activities. The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids participates in this program.
