“I have been coming to the Y ever since 11th grade when I was part of the core program. When I was part of it, I would clean different areas of the Y. What prompted me to come to the Y was I got a job site my senior year, and I worked at the kids zone and interacted with kids. I learned to interact with different children, and I learned to talk more to the children. I also took calls. I would call people on a list that I had sent to me. When I first did it, I panicked because they would ask me questions that I didn’t know. I was taught not to panic and I was taught to just say that I didn’t know how to answer it and I would transfer the customer. As I kept doing the calls, I panicked less more and transfer each customer. Sometimes I would panic and I would try to say something to get out of it. Throughout my experience with calls, I have learned not to panic and just to say that I didn’t know the answer to the question. I also got to meet new people around the Y, such as KidZone staff and other Office members. I had so much fun. I would recommend someone to work at the Y. I feel like it would be a great experience For anyone, blind or not blind. The Y has changed my life by having me work with others who are cited and me helping them assist me.”
